Unattended light, one dead


Manila, Philippines - 42 year old woman was declared dead on arrival due to a Task Force Bravo Fire in a shanty area caused by an unattended candle light, Friday dawn.

Three children were in critical condition with first and second degree burns while a forty two year old woman suffered a third degree burn and were declared dead on arrival by the Spokeswoman of La loma Hospital where the victims were brought.

Based on the investigation, the fire was caused by an unattended candle light left by the father (owner) of the shanty house. Deputy Fire Marshal Jose Waling of the BFP said "A neighbor who was up late watching T.V. smelled the smoke and scream which alerted the nearby houses."

The firefighters were contacted at 1:16 AM and arrived at 1:25 AM.

The strong wind caused the fire to spread and it adds that the houses in the community were made up of light materials.The fire took four hours and twenty minutes and reached Task Force Bravo before it was put out. The fire stroked seventy families and the estimated damaged property raised to Php 5,000,000.
